Start Reactor

Align the core, secure the rods, and keep the ship's heart beating together.

The Start Reactor is one of the most iconic and critical long tasks found within the Among Us universe, primarily located on the Skeld map's Electrical room. It requires two crewmates to work in tandem: one must align the reactor core while the other manages the fuel rods or safety protocols. This task serves as a vital test of trust and coordination, as it cannot be completed by a single player, making it a frequent focal point for impostor sabotage and deception during high-stakes rounds.

Lore & Background

However, this necessity for two operators creates a vulnerability that the Impostors have learned to exploit over countless cycles. The Electrical room, often dimly lit and filled with tangled wires, becomes a stage for tension. While one crewmate focuses on aligning the glowing core, they are vulnerable to being vented or killed by their partner. The task has become legendary not just for its difficulty, but as the site where trust is most frequently shattered, turning a routine maintenance procedure into a life-or-death gamble.

In Their Own Story

The hum of the Skeld's reactor had long since faded into an ominous silence, replaced by the frantic beeping of emergency alarms. 'I'm on the core,' shouted the Blue crewmate, their hands trembling as they twisted the heavy alignment wheel against magnetic resistance. 'Get the rods!' Red replied, rushing to the secondary panel, eyes darting nervously toward the shadowy corners of the room. For a moment, the only sound was the grinding metal and their own breathing. Then, the core aligned with a satisfying click, but before Red could insert the final rod, the lights flickered violently, casting long, dancing shadows that seemed to reach for them.

Reader's Guide

To successfully complete the Start Reactor task, two crewmates must enter the Electrical room on the Skeld simultaneously. The first player approaches the main reactor console and begins turning the large alignment wheel until the core indicator turns green or locks into place. While the first player stabilizes the core, the second player must move to the adjacent fuel rod panel. They will need to insert or adjust the rods in a specific sequence, often indicated by color matching or simple insertion mechanics depending on the game version. Both players must hold their respective actions until the task bar fills completely. If one player leaves or is eliminated before completion, the progress resets, requiring them to start over from the beginning. Communication is key; calling out your location and status ensures you don't waste time waiting for a partner who might be an Impostor.
