Shapeshifter

A master of disguise who wears a thousand faces to deceive the crew.

The Shapeshifter is a specialized variant of the Impostor role, introduced to add psychological depth and strategic complexity to the social deduction gameplay. Unlike standard traitors who rely solely on sabotage and stealthy elimination, this entity possesses the supernatural ability to mimic the appearance of any Crewmate it has observed. This power allows them to infiltrate meetings, frame innocent players with undeniable visual evidence, and move freely among the crew without raising immediate suspicion.

Lore & Background

Legends among the crew suggest that this ability stems from an advanced, stolen technology or a biological anomaly found on distant worlds. By locking onto a Crewmate's visual signature during close proximity, the Shapeshifter can rewrite their own physical form to match perfectly. This makes them nearly impossible to catch unless they are seen committing a crime in real-time or caught in a logical contradiction regarding their movements. Their presence turns every meeting into a high-stakes game of paranoia, as players realize that even the person standing right next to them might not be who they claim to be.

In Their Own Story

The airlock hissed shut behind Red, leaving him alone in the dimly lit Electrical room. He felt a chill that had nothing to do with the failing temperature controls. In the corner, Blue was frantically rewiring the circuits, humming a tuneless song. But as Red watched, the figure's movements seemed too fluid, too perfect. Suddenly, Blue turned around, and for a split second, the visor reflected not a face, but a swirling void of shifting colors before snapping back to normal. 'Just a glitch,' Blue said, their voice sounding slightly distorted. Red backed away slowly, wondering if he was looking at his friend or something wearing their skin.

Reader's Guide

As a Shapeshifter, your primary objective remains the same as any Impostor: eliminate all Crewmates or sabotage critical systems to prevent task completion. However, your unique ability changes how you approach these goals. You can activate your shapeshifting power at will to assume the appearance of a specific Crewmate you have recently seen.

This disguise allows you to walk openly near other players without being suspected of venting or killing immediately after an incident. If you kill a player and then shift into another crew member, witnesses may see 'you' walking away from the body, creating confusion about who actually committed the murder. Use this to frame others or simply to blend in during high-traffic areas.

Be cautious: while disguised, you cannot use vents, limiting your escape routes. Additionally, if you are seen shapeshifting by another player, you will be instantly identified as an Impostor. Your win condition is achieved when the number of Crewmates equals or drops below the number of Impostors, or if all critical tasks are sabotaged before completion.
